General Motors is funding the worst group of MAGA Politicians you’ve never heard of...meet RAGA.
The Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) is a political organization that helps far-right lawyers push extreme policies as a state’s Attorney General (AG). MAGA RAGA AGs use their state’s legal power to end abortion access; assail LGBTQ+ rights; attack social justice; destroy our environment; assault our democracy; and so much more.
RAGA’s funders include Big Oil & Gas, Big Pharma, Big Tobacco, the Gun Lobby and… GM
Despite General Motor’s corporate statements about standing up for marginalized groups and democracy, GM has given $330,000 to RAGA since 2020.
Assailing LGBTQ+ Rights
WHAT GM SAYS:
“We are deeply concerned by the bills being introduced in state houses across the country that single out LGBTQ+ individuals for exclusion or differential treatment.”
“#EverybodyIn means everybody. We are proud to support the LGBTQIA community.”
WHAT RAGA DOES: RAGA AG Ken Paxton (TX) stated he would be “willing and able” to defend laws criminalizing same-sex intimacy.
Attacking Social Justice
WHAT GM SAYS: GM aspires “to become the most inclusive company in the world.”
WHAT RAGA DOES: A group of 13 RAGA AGs, led by Jonathan Skrmetti (TN) and Kris Kobach (KS) “warned the nation’s biggest companies that diversity quotas in hiring are ‘immoral’ and said they would ‘vigorously’ seek legal action against employers with such practices.”
WHAT MARY BARRA SAYS: “I am both impatient and disgusted” following the deaths of George Floyd and other black Americans. “Let’s stop asking “why” and start asking “what.” What are we going to do?....individually and collectively – to drive change… meaningful, deliberate change.”
WHAT RAGA DOES: Since RAGA AG Ken Paxton (TX) took office in 2015, at least 72% of the Election Integrity Unit’s prosecutions appear to have been against Black and Latinx individuals.
Assault On Democracy
WHAT GM SAYS: The leaders of three-dozen major Michigan-based companies, including General Motors, objected to Republican-sponsored election bills that would make it harder to vote in Michigan and other states.
WHAT RAGA DOES: In Brnovich v. DNC, the U.S. The Supreme Court weakened the Voting Rights Act and made it more difficult to challenge discriminatory voting laws in court. The case was led by RAGA AG Mark Brnovich (AZ) and supported by a group of 18 RAGA AGs

Dear Mary Barra,
We urge General Motors to immediately stop funding the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) due to its role in restricting abortion access, assailing LGBTQ+ rights, attacking social justice, and assaulting our democracy.
Supporting RAGA contradicts General Motors' commitment to equality and social responsibility. We expect General Motors to align its funding with its values and cease supporting groups that attack fundamental human rights.
